Scan the full product catalog
Use a connected read-only Shopify scan or a Shopify product CSV so image gaps are reviewed across the catalog instead of only on products you happen to open manually.
Check every product for missing media, invalid image URLs, blank alt text, and suspicious exact-image reuse — then fix the evidence you can verify instead of guessing from a spreadsheet.
StoreCheck audits product-image catalog data. It does not visually grade photography, crawl theme rendering, or silently modify connected Shopify products.
Four StoreCheck image checks
images.no-product-imageThe parsed product has no product-level image URL. StoreCheck treats this as a High review finding because product imagery is a primary merchandising asset across Shopify sales channels.
images.invalid-urlAn image source is not a syntactically valid HTTP or HTTPS URL. This is a catalog-data check, not a claim that StoreCheck fetched every remote image or verified its current HTTP status.
images.missing-alt-textA product image has an empty alt-text value. Shopify documents alt text as useful for assistive technology, fallback display, and descriptive search context.
images.reused-across-productsThe exact same image URL appears on multiple products with different normalized titles. Reuse can be intentional, so StoreCheck asks for review instead of replacing media automatically.
Shopify alt-text guidance
Shopify says alternative text describes media, is used by assistive technology, can appear if media cannot load, and can help search engines understand image context. Shopify recommends keeping it brief and descriptive.
Five-step cleanup
01
Use a connected read-only Shopify scan or a Shopify product CSV so image gaps are reviewed across the catalog instead of only on products you happen to open manually.
02
A missing product image or invalid image URL is a more fundamental catalog gap than missing alt text. Confirm the intended media first so you do not write metadata for the wrong asset.
03
Describe the specific product and visible view using facts you actually know. Shopify recommends brief, descriptive alt text and says 125 characters or fewer is recommended, even though the field supports more.
04
A shared hero image can be legitimate for related listings or a sign of a mapping mistake. Confirm product intent before replacing a reused asset.
05
Verify that missing-image and alt-text findings disappeared without introducing invalid URLs or accidental image reuse elsewhere in the catalog.
StoreCheck's Pro AI Fix Pack can mark missing alt text as safe for assisted CSV editing, but its instructions only permit facts supported by the product title, variant color, filename, or other source data. It explicitly forbids inventing visual attributes. The pack is a download/review workflow; StoreCheck does not silently write those edits to a connected Shopify store.
Product image audit questions
No. StoreCheck audits catalog image fields such as presence, URL format, alt-text presence, and exact URL reuse. It does not use computer vision to judge whether a photo is attractive, accurate, high resolution, or visually accessible.
No. Missing alt text is a separate Medium finding. The image can still exist and render. Alt text provides a textual description used by assistive technology and can appear when media fails to load.
StoreCheck does not silently write alt text to connected Shopify products. On Pro, the AI Fix Pack can classify missing alt text as a safe assisted CSV-edit category only under strict acceptance criteria: use existing product facts, do not invent unsupported visual attributes, and keep the result concise. Merchant review and the downstream import remain separate steps.
No. StoreCheck's invalid-URL rule checks whether the stored value is a valid HTTP or HTTPS URL. It is not a remote uptime or HTTP-response crawler.
Exact reuse across differently titled products can expose a catalog mapping mistake, but it can also be intentional. StoreCheck therefore keeps this Medium and review-only instead of changing product media automatically.
